We will also need to know you are authorised to be there. For a business that usually means an owner or manager on site, or documentation connecting you to the premises.

A master key system lets one key open everything while individual keys open only what each person should reach. Done properly it is a hierarchy, not a shortcut.

Where it earns its keep:

• Losing one sub key does not compromise the building

Designing one is the part that matters. The mistake we are called to fix most often is a system built for who works there today, so it collapses the first time somebody changes role. A system should be planned with empty levels in it for the staff you have not hired yet.

If a master key goes missing, the whole system is compromised, not just the door that key opened. That usually means rekeying every cylinder it touched. It is worth knowing that before you plan one, and worth planning one that limits the blast radius.

The narrow stile aluminum door on the front of most Lee County retail units takes specific hardware. A standard residential deadbolt does not fit and should not be fitted.

Storefront doors take thousands of cycles a year. When one starts dragging or the latch stops catching cleanly, it is usually the closer or the pivot rather than the lock. Replacing the lock will not fix it.

The most neglected piece of hardware in any commercial building, and the one that fails most in this climate.

A door closer that slams is not just noise. It destroys the frame, the hinges and eventually the lock, and on a fire rated door it is a code issue. A door that does not close fully leaves the building unsecured every night.

We repair and replace closers, adjust closing and latching speed, fix doors that slam or hang open, and handle overhead and surface mounted units.

If your back door has not shut properly in months, that is a security hole you are paying for in air conditioning as well.

Exit devices are life safety hardware. If a panic bar is broken, painted over, chained or blocked, that is a code problem and an insurance problem before it is a security problem.

We install and repair panic bars and exit devices, fit alarmed exit devices where doors are being propped, replace worn latches and rods, and align devices on doors that have shifted.

If your building is inspected, this is the item that gets flagged. Worth checking before somebody else checks it for you.

Keys leave with staff. Codes and credentials do not.

We install and service keypad locks, standalone electronic locks, card and fob readers, and keyless entry on single doors or across a whole suite. For most small businesses a standalone keypad on two or three doors does the job without a server or a subscription, and we will say so rather than sell you a system you do not need.

The practical advantage is that when someone leaves, you remove their code in seconds instead of rekeying a building.

Every business eventually hands a key to someone who does not give it back.

Rekeying commercial cylinders is fast and far cheaper than replacing hardware. If you have had turnover, a break in attempt, or you simply cannot account for every key, rekey. It is a small cost against a risk you cannot measure.

Restaurants and retail with high turnover should be on a schedule for this rather than reacting.
